Bachelor’s Degree: BA in Criminal Justice (Grantham University)
The Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (BA-CJ) Program as offered by Grantham University seeks to prepare students for careers in law enforcement including positions in the local, state, and federal levels. The program teaches the theories of criminal justice in relation to practical experiences. Graduates are expected to be able to analyze basic theories and concepts as well as processes involving data gathering and decision-making in the criminal justice scope. Learned theories are then expected to be effectively used in solving problems while employing critical thinking skills.
The program has a total length of one hundred twenty-two (122) credit hours and is provided in two (2) concentrations namely Homeland Security and Computer Science. Students can choose to forego having a specific concentration but are advised to take six (6) specific courses as electives to provide them a solid knowledge base. These are Multicultural Law Enforcement, Police Community Relations, Victimology, Advanced Criminal Law, Judicial Process, and a CJ 300 Level Electives or higher. Electives are aimed at providing greater depth in each criminal justice concentration.
Program core courses include Student Success, Principles of Business Management, Introduction to Sociology 1, Police Systems and Practices, Correction Systems and Practices, Juvenile Justice 1, American Government II, Psychology and the Law, Introduction to Public Administration, Criminal Procedure, Criminal Law, Community Policing, Criminal Investigations, White Collar Crime, Criminal Justice Research Methods, and Police Administration. Students are likewise required to complete General Education Courses including Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Criminology, Introduction to Criminal Justice Ethics, Computer Concepts and Office Applications, English Composition I and II, American Government I, World History: Ancient to Renaissance, College Algebra, Finite Mathematics, and Fundamentals of Psychology. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The university is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council.
