The Online Bachelor of Arts in History as offered by Grand Canyon University offers the study of diverse world cultures that prepares students for graduate studies in history as well as related disciplines. The program is intended for individuals having a strong interest in ancient cultures such as ancient Rome and Greece as well as Japan and China of today. Students will learn to analyze available information that would ultimately make them more competitive in their chosen careers.
With a length of one hundred twenty (120) credits, the program requires students to complete General Education Courses and History Major Courses. History Major Courses include Ethical Thinking in the Liberal Arts. Themes in US History, World Civilization, History and Historians, Civil War and Reconstruction, Near-Eastern History, Modern Middle East, 20th Century World, Colonial and Revolutionary America, England to 1688, Russian History, and History of Modern Asia. Graduates can pursue further study through a Master of Arts Degree in History, Ancient History and Language Acquisition, Library Science, and for Teachers – History.
Applicants must be US citizens, at least twenty-one (21) years old and have some college credits. Graduates are likely to have careers as museum curators, history preservationists, community tourism developers or as contract historians. This program will facilitate the development of knowledge and skills associated with the liberal arts degree.
The BA in History Program is presented through chronological and theoretical framework that would allow participants to understand in the proper context, the human experience as reflected in the cultural, political, social and economic aspects. Graduates are expected to obtain the required skills for effective historical research and reflection. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Online programs are offered on a semester basis wherein students can take multiple courses per semester.
