Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations (Grand Canyon University)
Completing the three (3) concentration offerings of Grand Canyon University for its Online Communications Program is its Bachelor of Arts in Communications: Public Relations. The program builds upon a values-based liberal arts foundation while seeking to develop communication skills of different modes, creativity and knowledge required for effective delivery of compelling messages. Program length is one hundred twenty (120) credits.
Through this program, students will have the opportunity to be trained in the art of persuasive theory specifically in how communication can be used to influence attitudes and behavioral changes. Areas of learning include media writing, consumer behavior, intercultural communications, and public relations. Students will also have the chance to test their learning in real and actual applications to different situations.
Communications Major courses include Ethical Thinking in the Liberal Arts, Communications and the Media, History of Criticism of Visual Media, Persuasive Theory, Writing for the Media, Principles of Public Relations, Intercultural Communications, Public Relations Writing and Design, Visual Media and Storytelling, Consumer Communications and Behavior, and Communication Issues and Critical Thinking. There are required courses before taking specific Concentration courses. Program completion is attained by taking the assigned General Education courses as well as Elective courses. Entry-level positions available to graduates of this program include copy editor, public relation specialist, reporter or salesperson.
Online programs are covered by the university’s accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. Applicants must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years old with some college credits. Tuition rates follow on-campus tuition rates. Inquiries from all states except Mississippi are entertained due to certain state regulations.
