Kaplan University offers the Advanced Start Bachelor of Science in Accounting with an Emphasis in Managerial Accountancy to associate or bachelor degree holders in other fields who are seeking career opportunities as management accountants. High school graduates or those holding a GED equivalent can start as freshmen. Management accountants are responsible for recording and analyzing financial information. They are sometimes referred to as cost accountants, managerial accountants or private accountants. People who occupy the position are expected to possess skills in strategic planning and budgeting, cost and asset management as well as performance evaluation.

Required courses include 100/200 Level Communication Course, 100/200 Level Mathematics Course, 200 Level Communication Course, 300/400 Level Arts and Humanities Course, 300/400 Level Physical Science Course, and 300/400 Level Social Science Course, Accounting I, Accounting II, Managerial Accounting, Federal Tax, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Business Math, 100/200 Level Major Elective, Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, Business Law, twenty-four (24) credits of 300/400 Level Major Electives, and the Bachelor’s Capstone in Accounting.

Emphasis Area Courses include Intermediate Accounting III, Auditing, Cost Accounting, and Financial Statement Analysis. Total program length for the regular bachelor’s degree is one hundred eighty (180) credits while the Advanced Start Option requires completion of only a minimum of ninety (90) credits because of the allowable transfer credits.

Regular tuition cost is $ 371.00 per credit for an estimated total cost of $ 66,780.00 while the Advanced Start Option has a tuition cost of $ 425.00 per credit hour. The program is a suitable preparation for taking the CPA examination. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
