Online BS in Accounting – Public Accountancy (Kaplan University)

Kaplan University offers the Bachelor of Science in Accounting with an Emphasis Area in Public Accountancy for the purpose of enabling students to develop skills in handling tax, audit, and consultation with individuals, non-profit organizations, governments and corporations. The focus of the study is on procedures which require financial accounting comparisons. The program also seeks to provide students with learning on the terminology and principles of basic cost accounting, cost classification as well as inventory manufacturing.

The program length is one hundred eighty (180) credit hours. The curriculum consists of Core Courses that include 100/200 Level Communication Course, 100/200 Level Mathematics Course, 200 Level Communication Course, 300/400 Level Arts and Humanities Course, and 300/400 Level Social Science Course. Major Courses include Accounting I and Accounting II, Managerial Accounting, Federal Tax, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Business Math, 100/200 Level Major Elective, Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, Business Law, 300/400 Level Major Electives, and the Bachelor’s Capstone in Accounting. Emphasis Area Courses for Public Accountancy consist of Intermediate Accounting III, Auditing, Advanced Tax -Corporate, and Advanced Forensic Accounting. Students have to complete at least fifty-nine (59) credits of Open Electives.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Students looking into possibilities of reducing the cost can make use of qualifying transfer credits. Qualified students can also make use of available financial aid and scholarship offers. The Advanced Start Option which enables a student to finish the bachelor’s degree program in two (2) years is open to associate or bachelor degree holders. Kaplan University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
