Online Advanced Start BS in Criminal Justice – Crime Scene Investigation (Kaplan University)
The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an Emphasis in Crime Scene Investigation focuses in the techniques used in the location, collection, and analysis of crime scene evidence. Students will learn to identify boundaries of a crime scene while understanding the principles of searching for particular types of evidence as well as identifiable forensic materials and other items having potential evidentiary value. The basic Criminal Justice Program offers a foundational knowledge of the field while the Emphasis Area allows students to develop specialized skills.
Kaplan University offers the Advanced Start Option to associate or bachelor degree holders who seek to complete a bachelor’s degree in the field of criminal justice in as short as twenty-four (24) months. Through qualified transfer credits from previous learning, students just need to complete a minimum of ninety (90) credits instead of the usual one hundred eighty (180) credits required for the regular bachelor’s degree program. Cost per credit is $ 425.00 for an estimated total program cost of $ 38,250.00.
Required Major Courses include Introduction to the Criminal Justice System, Criminology I, Criminal Investigation, Computer/Technology and Criminal Justice Information Systems, Criminal Procedure, Criminal Law for Criminal Justice, Applied Criminal Justice Ethics, Research Methods in Criminal Justice, 300/400 Level Major Elective, Bachelor’s Capstone on Criminal Justice, Eight Skills of the Effective Criminal Justice Student or Pathways to Academic Success, and 200/300 Level Course. Emphasis Area Courses consist of Legal Foundations of Criminal Evidence, Crime Scene Investigation II, Crime Scene Photography or Forensic Fingerprint Analysis, and Forensic Chemistry and Trace Evidence Analysis or Forensic Biology and Impression Evidence.
