Kaplan University offers the Advanced Start Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Program with an Emphasis in Homeland Security to criminal justice professionals, military personnel, business people, and other individuals interested in understanding the roots of terrorism, disaster incidents, conflict resolution, crisis negotiation, and response methods to weapons of mass destruction. Students are taught the basic theory, practice, and organization of homeland security. Advanced Start Programs have been especially designed to allow associate or bachelor degree holders from other fields to complete a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in as short as twenty-four (24) months. Working professionals need not leave their jobs to pursue their academic goals for career advancement purposes because of the program’s convenient online format. Students will need to complete a minimum of ninety (90) credits with the actual number of credits determined after considering qualified transfer credits.

Required Major Courses include Introduction to the Criminal Justice System, Criminology I, Criminal Investigation, Computer/Technology and Criminal Justice Information Systems, Criminal Procedure, Criminal Law for Criminal Justice, Applied Criminal Justice Ethics, Research Methods in Criminal Justice, 300/400 Level Major Elective, Bachelor’s Capstone on Criminal Justice, Eight Skills of the Effective Criminal Justice Student or Pathways to Academic Success, and 200/300 Level Course. Homeland Security Specialization Courses consist of Homeland Security, Crises Negotiation, and twelve (12) credits of Criminal Justice Electives. Tuition cost is $ 425.00 per credit. Qualified students can avail of federal aid, tuition discount, or scholarship. Possible job positions include homeland security agent, security analyst, border patrol agent, or law enforcement officer.
