The Advanced Start Bachelor of Science in Communications Program is offered by Kaplan University to students interested in developing communication skills that can be applied to any career field. Skills in oral, written, and interpersonal communication are important components for career advancement. Graduates can look forward to job positions in various fields including advertising, public relations, human resources, marketing, opinion and market research, social services, civil services, management, and international business, among others.

Required Core Courses include 100/200 Level Communication and Mathematics Courses; 200 Level Communication Course; and 300/400 Level Courses in Arts and Humanities, Physical Science, and Social Science. Required Major Courses include Communication Program and Profession, Communication Concepts and Skills, Mass Media and Broadcasting, International Communications, Communication Research Skills, Public Speaking for the Professional , Technical Communication, Introduction to Psychology, Communicating in a Diverse Society, Communication and Conflict, Tools for the Digital Age, Group Dynamics and Team Building, Communicating Persuasiveness, Organizational Communication, Strategic Communication, and the Bachelor’s Capstone in Communication. At least fifty-nine (59) credits of Open Electives courses have to be completed by the student to complete the total program requirement of one hundred eighty (180) credits. Those who opt to avail of the Advanced Start Program can have approved credits transferred from a completed associate’s degree.

The program is offered in two (2) emphases namely Technical Writing and Organizational Communication. The Advanced Start program facilitates completion of a bachelor’s degree in less than two (2) years for holders of an associate degree. Minimum eligibility requirements for prospective students include high school diploma or GED equivalent, US citizenship or permanent residency in the US, and reliable computer access to support the online format.

Tuition cost is $ 371.00 per credit hour for an estimated total cost of $ 66,780.00. Kaplan University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
