The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Early Childhood Education (Grades K-8) (Eligible for Institutional Recommendation) is offered by Grand Canyon University in the online format. The program has a total length of one hundred twenty (120) credits including General Education credits, Early Childhood Major credits, Early Childhood Area credits, and Elective credits. A total of one hundred five (105) practicum hours is incorporated into the program.

The program is specifically designed for individuals seeking careers in teaching grades K-8 children as well as those seeking teacher certification. Required Emphasis Courses include Exploring Education as a Profession, Education Foundations and Framework, Cultural Diversity in the Classroom, English Language Teaching: Foundations and Methodologies, Educational Psychology, Instructional Technology, Classroom Engagement and Management, Educating the Exceptional Learner, Curriculum/Methods and Assessment in Science and Mathematics/ Literacy and Language Arts K-3/ Social Studies as well as Literacy and Language Arts, Arizona and Federal Government, and Student Teaching Sessions A and B. Applicants for certification in the State of Arizona are required to take six (6) credits of Structured English Immersion. Teacher candidates from other states are responsible for verifying specific certification requirements of their corresponding state department of education.

Applicants should be at least twenty-one (21) years old and have some college credits. Inquiries from Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota and Mississippi are not accepted at this time due to certain state requirements. Graduates can choose to pursue further studies through the MA in Education: Elementary Licensure or Instructional Leadership, MA in Early Childhood Education, Master in Early Childhood Development and Master in Elementary Administration. An entry-level teaching position is one of the possible career paths to take.
