Kaplan University offers the Advanced Start Bachelor of Science in Human Services Program to individuals seeking careers in a wide range of helping professions. The focus of the program is to train students in developing the ability to provide appropriate interventions and intervention strategies that will guide people who are unable to help themselves. The study will include developing talents, accessing client needs, identifying community resources, advocating for clients, and solving client problems. The bachelor’s degree program is offered in three (3) Emphasis Areas. The bachelor’s degree program is offered in three (3) Emphasis Areas namely Human Services Administration, Gerontology, and Child and Family Welfare.

The Advanced Start Option is specifically designed to advance a two year degree into a four-year degree. Prospective students must have an associate’s degree. Students are expected to be eligible for graduation with the completion of ninety (90) credit hours. Since a regular bachelor’s degree has a length of one hundred eighty (180) credit hours, the remaining ninety (90) credit hours is expected to be provided through transfer credits from prior learning. In this way, students are able to obtain a bachelor’s degree in a much shorter time, usually within two (2) years.

Some of the Required Courses include Introduction to Human Services, Human Behavior and the Environment, Survey of Social Problems, Applied Skills for Human Services, Prevention and Crisis Intervention, Human Services and Social Policy, Case Management in Human Services, Human Services Delivery, and the Bachelor’s Capstone for Human Services. Tuition cost per credit is $ 425.00. Accreditation is provided by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services centers on the community’s fundamental public and social services. Coursework will cover the different aspects related to the field of human services such as sociology, psychology, criminal justice, and health services. Possible job positions include social worker, human service assistant, and school counselor, among others.
