Online BS in Information Technology (Kaplan University)
Kaplan University offers the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Program to students seeking careers related to creating solutions to software and hardware problems as well as designing e-media products for real-world application. The program is offered in two (2) tracks, each having several Career Focus Areas to offer students. The Applied Technology Track offers Career Focus Areas in Information Systems Management, Network Administration, New Media/Internet Marketing, Project Development, and Web Development. Career Focus Areas included in the Information Systems Track include Application Development, Database Management, Health Informatics, Information Security and Forensics, and Mobile Computing.
Students need to complete one hundred eighty (180) credit hours consisting of Core Courses, Major Courses and Career Focus Area Courses. The Applied Technology Track emphasizes the study of using and managing various information technologies and systems to serve employee, customer and organization needs. Offering a more rigorous course of study, the Information Systems Track requires the completion of three (3) advanced math courses in statistics, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Core Courses consist of 100/200 Level Communication Course, 100/200 Level Mathematics Course, 200 Level Communication Course, 300/400 Level Arts and Humanities Course, 300/400 Level Physical Science Course, and 300/400 Level Social Science Course. Required Major Courses for The Applied Technology Track include Introduction to Website Development, Foundations in Information Technology, Desktop Administration, Networking Concepts, 200 Level Mathematics Elective, Project Management I, Human Computer Interaction, Technology Infrastructure, Systems Analysis and Design and the Bachelor’s Capstone in Information Technology. The Information Systems Track requires completion of Major Courses in Foundations in Information Technology, Networking Concepts, Statistics, Introductory Discrete Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Introduction to Management, Project Management I, Human Computer Interaction, Technology Infrastructure, Principles of Information Systems Architecture, Systems Analysis and Design, and the Bachelor’s Capstone in Information Technology.
