Online Geriatric Care Management Certificate (Kaplan University)
The Geriatric Care Management Certificate Program is offered by Kaplan University to individuals interested in establishing a geriatric care management practice for the purpose of providing the elderly the quality care and optimal lifestyle which their condition requires. Graduates of this program may also choose to work as geriatric care managers in diverse practice environments such as insurance companies, home health agencies, long-term care facilities, assisted-care facilities, social service agencies, law firms, and government agencies. The program is offered through Kaplan Continuing Education and is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Students will learn how to assess, coordinate, and monitor the needs of elderly clients and their families in the aspects of health and human services. They are also expected to gain an understanding of the aging process’ impact on individuals, families, communities, and the healthcare delivery system. Prospective students include registered nurses, occupational therapists, rehabilitation counselors, psychologists, social workers, physical therapists, case managers, and medical doctors. Applicants must possess a healthcare license.
The program is expected to be completed within twelve (12) months. Required Courses include Introduction to Geriatric Care Management, Aging as a Reality, Psychological Issues in Aging, Balancing Aging and Independence, Financial Considerations of the Elderly, Legal and Ethical Issues in Geriatric Care Management, and Successful Aging. Continuing Education Certificate Programs such as this are not eligible for Title IV Federal Financial Aid.
