Instructional Technology Specialist Certificate (Drexel University)

The K-12 school environment requires instructional technology specialists that do not only understand technology but also know how to apply their knowledge in the classroom environment. Drexel University Online offers the Instructional Technology Specialist Certificate Program to address this need. Program completion qualifies participants for state certification. It can be applied towards continued study in Drexel’s Master of Science in Learning Technologies.

Courses included in the program are taught by the faculty of Drexel University’s School of Education and College of Information Science and Technology. The innovative curriculum of this 9-course, graduate-level certificate program includes courses such as Computer Skills for Teachers or Instructional Role of the Information Specialist, Evaluation of Instructions, Diagnostic Teaching, Multimedia in Instructional Design, Virtual Learning, Developing Educational Leaders Using Technology, Researching and Evaluating Technology, Professional and Social Aspects of Information Services, and Managing Information Organizations. Three (3) of these courses can be waived for incoming students who have already received their teaching certificate from Drexel. This certificate program is especially suitable for holders of Pennsylvania Instructional I or Instructional II Teaching Certificate.

Admissions criteria include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0, complete application, official transcripts, two (2) letters of recommendation, and an essay describing the reason why the applicant wishes to pursue graduate study in the field while also stating the intended area of certification. Students are also required to meet the Pennsylvania State Content Course Requirements for their particular area of certification. International students are required to submit a TOEFL score of 500 or higher. Tuition rate is $ 720.00 pr credit.
