Instructional Technology Specialist Certificate (Drexel University)
Drexel University Online offers the Instructional Technology Specialist Certificate to prospective students currently possessing a Pennsylvania Instructional I or Instructional II Teaching Certificate. The certificate program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Handling the responsibility for its online instructions are faculty members of the university’s School of Education and College of Information Science and Technology.
This graduate level certificate program is comprised of a 9-course curriculum equivalent to twenty-nine (29) credits. The curriculum courses include Evaluation of Instruction Diagnostic Teaching, Multimedia in Instructional Design, Computer Skills for Teachers or Instructional Role of the Information Specialist, Virtual Learning, Developing Educational Leaders Using Technology, Researching and Evaluation Technology, Professional and Social Aspects of Information Services, and Managing Information Organizations. The first three (3) mentioned courses may not be required for incoming students who already have a teaching certificate and thus are only required to take six (6) courses. The curriculum courses seek to produce instructional technology experts for the K-12 school environment.
Admissions criteria include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, complete graduate school application, official transcripts from all educational institutions attended including trade schools, two (2) letters of recommendation , and an essay describing the reason for the applicant’s interest in pursuing graduate study in the field. Prospective students also need to meet the PA State Content Course Requirements while international students are required to submit their TOEFL score which should be 550 or higher. Tuition rate is $ 720.00 per credit. This certification can pave the way for continued study towards the completion of Master of Science in Learning Technologies Degree and also qualifies its graduate for state certification.
