Online Risk Management Certificate (Kaplan University)
The Risk Management Certificate Program is offered in the online format by Kaplan University as part of Kaplan Continuing Education (KCE) programs. KCE programs are primarily intended to prepare graduates to pursue employment in their chosen field of study and advance their careers as risk management professionals. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
The program will train students to create a risk management program for the purpose of protecting and preserving organizational assets through the identification and analysis of risk exposures. The plan seeks to minimize the impact of loss in an organization in the light of increased government regulations which organizations are expected to comply with. Risk managers are the people to turn to for decisions made under uncertain conditions. There are several organizational issues addressed in risk management including corporate governance, business continuity, executive liability, national security as well as the risk transparency requirements as provided by law.
There are a number of functions which risk managers are expected to perform. These includes indentifying and analyzing loss exposures, examining feasibility of alternative techniques, selecting and implementing the best techniques to effectively achieve desired goals, and evaluating opportunities and threats faced by an organization. Prospective students for this program include individuals with backgrounds in finance, business, insurance, accounting, or human resources. All applicants must be holders of an associate’s degree.
The program length is twelve (12) months. Required Course include Introduction to Risk Management, Creating a Risk Management Program, Risk Analysis, Risk Control, Business Insurance, Alternative Risk Financing, Risk Administration, and Enterprise Risk Management.
