Herzing University Online offers different levels of Accounting Programs. One of these is the Diploma in Bookkeeping and Payroll Accounting (DBPA) Program which seeks to provide students with general bookkeeping and payroll skills. Students who complete this program are expected to be able to set-up as well as maintain a business’ basic accounting and payroll records. Graduates can choose to pursue further studies and acquire an ADP Payroll Certificate or apply for entry-level positions in bookkeeping and payroll accounting.
Students can complete the program by finishing a minimum of twenty-four (24) semester credit hours or two (2) semesters. Graduates are expected to be able to read and understand financial statements and accounts, maintain basic accounting records in manual and computerized form, create and maintain computerized spreadsheets, create and maintain payroll records, and produce financial reports either manually or through the use of accounting database programs. Possible job positions include accounting clerk, bookkeeping assistant, and accounting technician.
Required courses include Accounting I, Payroll Accounting, Accounting II, Computers and Application Software, Spreadsheets, and Business Math. Personal Development Courses are also required specifically one (1) credit fro Student Success Skills and one (1) credit for Career Development Seminar. Estimated tuition cost is $ 9,350.00 or $ 425.00 per credit hour. Applicants must have a high school diploma or recognized equivalent.
Bookkeeping is essentially about keeping track of business day-to-day transactions while Payroll Accounting is about keeping track of financial logs related to employee compensation and ensuring that employees are properly paid. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
