Master’s Degree in Teaching/Teacher Leadership (Grand Canyon University)
The Online Master of Arts in Teaching with an Emphasis in Teacher Leadership (Not Eligible for Institutional Recommendation) is offered by Grand Canyon University to elementary and secondary teachers seeking advanced studies in education with particular interest in peer coaching with the end purpose of facilitating and promoting scholastic improvement in a continuous and sustainable manner. The program is designed to meet the unique educational needs and circumstances of adult learners while carefully enabling existing student strengths to be maximized. The course on Instructional Leadership seeks to allow participants a greater understanding of the complexities of leadership in the present time. The process of coaching between teaching professionals is covered in the Collegial Coaching course with special emphasis in peer mentoring and providing support to teachers new in the practice. Total program length is thirty-two (32) credits.
The coursework in this next-level degree program may assist teachers seeking National Board Certification although certification is not guaranteed. It also addresses issues relevant to the K-12 classroom and schools. Access to a K-12 classroom is required for program assignments to be completed. Applicants must be US citizens and have a Bachelor’s degree with certification and experience. Participants to the program get the chance to reflect on the current teaching practice while being able to facilitate expansion, refinement and building of new skills.
