MEd in Elementary Education With IR and Cert (Grand Canyon University)
Grand Canyon University offers the Online Master of Education in elementary Education (Eligible for Institutional Recommendation) Program to individuals seeking careers in the education of Grades K-8 children and are at the same time intending to obtain teacher certification. Since this is a credentialing program, participants have the responsibility of verifying certification requirements with specific state department of education depending on their location. All courses offered in the program are directly aligned with the Arizona Professional Teacher Standards as well as the Interstate New Teacher Support and Assessment Consortium Standards. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
The program has a total of forty-six (46) credits and one hundred ten (110) practicum hours. Required courses include Philosophical and Social Issues in Education, Classroom Engagement and Management, Educating Learners with Diverse Needs, SEI English Language Teaching: Foundations and Methodologies, Advanced Methodologies of Structured English Immersion, Prescriptive Reading and Assessment, Curriculum/Assessment and Methods: Literacy, Curriculum/Assessment and Methods: Science and Mathematics, Curriculum/Assessment and Methods: Social Studies, and Student Teaching: Elementary Sessions A and B. Access to a Grade K-8 classroom is needed to complete program assignments. The program is deemed fully complied with when all courses have been taken and the full 16-week student teaching component is completed.
Applicants must be Bachelor degree holders. Inquiries from Arkansas and Connecticut are not accepted at his time due to certain state requirements. Possible career options include elementary or kindergarten teaching positions in public or private schools, as education administrator or elementary school principal. The program provides for a wide range of subjects relevant to the field including educational psychology, reading strategies, teaching methods, and curriculum development.
