Online MS in Criminal Justice – Leadership and Executive Management (Kaplan University)
Kaplan University offers the Master of Science in Criminal Justice with an Emphasis on Leadership and Executive Management to students having a special interest in exploring theories and practices related to justice management, human resource development, fiscal issues specifically in the preparation of budgets and grant applications, as well as employment and policy law. The Criminal Justice Program allows students to analyze the causes of criminal behavior, understand the structural processes of criminal justice organizations, explore research methods for data evaluation, and study recent legislation and case law. It is offered in the Thesis Track, the Comprehensive Exam Track or the Applied Action Research Track. Core Requirements for the Thesis Track include Critical Legal Issues in Criminal Justice, Criminological Theory, Research Methodology, Organizational Behavior, Data Analysis, Research and Thesis I, and Research and Thesis II. The Comprehensive Exam Track also requires the first 4 Core Courses plus Critical Issues in Criminal Justice and the Comprehensive Exam. The Applied Action Research Track requires the same first 3 Core Courses plus Applied Action Research in Criminal Justice and the Action Research Project in Criminal Justice. Specialization Courses include Employment and Policy Law, Theoretical Applications of Justice Management, Budgeting and Finance for Public Safety Administrators, and Human resource Development.
Students need to complete a total of fifty-five (55) credits. Qualified students can avail of federal aid, scholarship, or tuition discount.
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Graduates can pursue job positions as correctional officer or manager, justice administrator, public safety manager, or law enforcement supervisor. A doctoral degree program is the next logical step for further studies.
