The Master of Science in Criminal Justice with an Emphasis in Legal Studies Program offered by Grand Canyon University is specifically designed fro students having keen interest in the criminal justice and legal systems. An expanded understanding of the laws, social order, and justice is provided through this online program that also prepares students for work in legal foundations. Prospective students include law enforcement personnel seeking advancement in their field as well as other industry professionals such as corrections, probation, and parole officers; law clerks; and decision makers involved in public policy, social research, and administration of justice.
The program has a length of forty (40) credits. Required courses include Organizational Behavior and Leadership in Criminal Justice, Restorative Justice, Research Methods, Forensic Psychology, Constitutional Issues in Criminal Justice, Critical Issues in Criminal Justice, Exploration of Law and Public Policy, International Law, Legal Research, and the Capstone Course. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Completion of this program will enable graduates to effectively handle increased responsibilities in their present position while having additional career options. Acquired knowledge and skills will be of critical use to various working environments including police departments, correctional institutions, government agencies, court houses, and universities and colleges. Graduates can pursue careers as criminal justice educators, corrections officers, parole officers, probation officers, law enforcement officers, and criminologists.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and should be US citizens. Students enrolled in this program can also take related courses in Legal Technology, Real Estate Litigation, Courtroom Techniques, Law Office Management, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Ethics for Legal Assistants, among others. Financial aid is available to qualified students.
