Students who desire to focus on the different aspects of the “green” industry, including legal, business, social, economics, and political, will find an appropriate educational program in the Master of Science in Environmental Policy. It is offered by Kaplan University in the online format. Graduates are expected to be able to effectively perform the functions and responsibilities of management-level positions that require a comprehensive knowledge of environmental issues.

Students will be trained to develop sustainability project goals, evaluate and approve proposals for projects pertaining to sustainability and generate environmental impact profiles, conduct independent research on environmental issues, as well as develop and execute strategies to address different issues including building design, education, transportation, waste elimination, pollution reduction, recycling, resource conservation, and energy use. Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Accreditation for Kaplan University is provided by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Total program length is fifty-five (55) credit hours. Required Core Courses include Environmental Foundations and Principles, Environmental Law and Policy, Environmental Risk Assessment, Environmental Policy Analysis, Applied Research in Legal Studies, Leadership in the Public Sector, Applied Research and Legal Studies or Criminal Justice Elective. Students are also required to complete any three (3) of the offered Elective Courses including Sustainability-Policy and Practice, Environmental Project Management, Crisis and Emergency Management Fundamentals, Public and Private Partnership, Political and Economic Forces, Environmental Risk Assessment, Biology of Pollution, Conservation of Natural Resources, Energy and our Global Climate, and Ecological Interactions. The program is offered in two (2) tracks namely Applied Research and Comprehensive Exam.
