Master’s Degree in Leadership – Disaster Preparedness and Executive Fire Leadership (Grand Canyon University)
Students are provided the skills that will help them gain confidence in their respective leadership styles while facilitating professional development through the Master of Science in Leadership with an Emphasis in Disaster Preparedness and Executive Fire Leadership Program. The program also provides an opportunity for the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program graduates to complete a Master’s degree. It is offered by Grand Canyon University in the online format.
The program places special focus on training participants in the integration of conceptual foundation of an executive leadership role which emphasizes immediate application of skills in ethical and practical leadership as well as crisis management and disaster preparation. Also addressed in the program are environmental issues directly related to development of leadership skills and content relevant to the areas of disaster preparedness and emergency public safety. The university is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Required courses include Leadership Styles and Development, Power/Politics and Influence, Organizational Developments and Change, Leading as a General Manager, Organizational Culture and Team Leadership, Emergency Planning and Management, Economic and Human Issues, Law and Legal Issues, and Understanding Terrorism Threats. The program has a length of thirty-six (36) credits. Prospective students must hold a Bachelor’s degree prior to enrollment.
This online program is offered on a semester basis where students can take multiple courses per semester. Financial aid is available to qualified students through federal student aid programs. All online courses use the Angel Technology to ensure consistency in formats of all classes taken by students. Each course is eight (8) weeks long thus students usually take two (2) courses for each 16-week semester. Applicants must be US citizens. Some state restrictions may apply on certain online programs.
