PhD Degree in K-12 Studies in Education (Capella University)
Capella University is offering an online Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree program specializing in K-12 Studies in Education. Capella’s program is different from others because Capella’s learners are able to individualize their courses to fit their preferred K-12 research interests. This program appeals to licensed K-12 teachers and administrators who are looking to advance their careers or are wanting to concentrate on consulting positions or work as higher-education faculty members.
The course work of Capella’s online PhD – K-12 Studies in Education include advanced research, educational philosophy, advanced learning theory, and K-12 history and politics. Electives in the areas of adult learning, mathematics, science, educational leadership, virtual school instruction and assessment strategies are available. Learners, even while enrolled in the program, are able to build their professional portfolios that would enable them to demonstrate their competencies to their present and prospective employers. The program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). It is, however, not designed to satisfy licensure requirements for P-12 public teachers and administrators.
The program is composed of 120 quarter credits which are earned by taking the requisite number of Core Courses, Specialization Courses, and Elective Courses. In case financial aid is needed, various financial aid options in the form of grants, loans and scholarships are in place and are available to eligible students.
