Post-Master’s Certificate in College Teaching (Capella University)
Capella University is offering an online Post-Master’s Certificate program in College Teaching which was developed primarily to assist “college-level academic subject experts in mastering instructional skills”. The certificate program focuses on learning theories, educational philosophy, classroom assessment and course design and the development of essential instructional skills. Learners who complete the program would be in a better position to excel as teachers, whether as on-campus instructors or online.
The full certificate program consists of 20 quarter credits thus, learners must enroll in and complete five of the six required courses. Learners enrolled in Capella’s online Post-Master’s Certificate – College Teaching must take the following courses: ED 7311 – Theory and Methods of Educating Adults; ED 7312 – Teaching Adults; ED 7712 – Classroom Assessment in Education; ED 8444 – Higher Education Curriculum development and Teaching Strategies or ED 8660 – Effective Online Course Design, Delivery, Facilitation, and Assessment; and ED 8320 – Practicum in College Teaching. ED 8320 has a prerequisite, thus it is recommended to consult with an Enrollment Counselor prior to starting with the program to ensure that the correct sequence of courses is followed. Credits earned may be applied to Capella’s PhD programs.
Tuition may or may not include the cost of books and other incidental expenses. In case financial aid is required, various financial aid programs such as federal grants, loans and scholarships are in place and are available to eligible students.
