Capella University

In 1991 Stephen Shank, former CEO of Tonka Corporation, founded Capella University. Located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, it is a for-profit online university that offers more than 1250 online bachelor’s, master’s (MS and MBA) and doctoral degrees in the fields of business management, health care, higher education, human capital management, information technology, K-12 education, mental health, public administration and public safety.
Capella University has an open enrollment admission policy. To apply for admission for undergraduate programs, proof of a high school diploma and a GED (or its equivalent) are two of the documents that need to be presented. More supporting materials may be required for graduate courses. More information on undergraduate and graduate application procedures and requirements is available from the Admissions Office. Application to programs may be done online through the University website.
Tuition fees are charged on a per credit hour basis and vary depending on the program of study. Tuition does not include any incidental costs such as lodging, books or laboratory fees, and may change without prior notice. A more accurate estimate may be requested from the University’s Bursar’s Office. Financial aid, in the form of federal grants, student loans, and scholarships can be utilized to make the cost of acquiring an education easier to bear. Information on financial aid and scholarship opportunities can be discussed with a nominated program adviser.
Capella University is recognized and accredited by several respected organizations throughout the world. It is accredited with the Higher Learning Commission, a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and is the first online academic institution to become a charter participant of the Academic Quality Improvement Program.
