Lamar University
Lamar University is a co-educational public university in located in Beaumont, Texas. It was established as South Park Junior College in September 17, 1923 and used to occupy just an unused floor at the South Park High School. In 1932, the school was recognized as a junior college and was renamed Lamar College, after Mirabeau B. Lamar. Today, Lamar University caters to over 14,000 students, the highest since it began in the early 20′s.
Lamar University offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Development, Fine Arts and Communication, and the College of Engineering. Most of the courses are to be taken on campus, however, some degrees can be earned online through the University’s distance learning platform.
Through Lamar’s online program students can earn a four baccalaureate degrees (Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences, Bachelor of General Studies, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology), two graduate degrees (Master of Science in Nursing, and Master of Science in Health Promotion), and an RN to BSN (Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree from the comfort of their own home, and at their own time.
Tuition fees for Lamar’s online programs are not readily available. The rates, however, for Lamar’s on-campus courses are roughly $360.00 / hour for non residents, $50.00 / hour for residents, and $50.00 / hour for graduate courses. Financial aid in the form of federal grants, student loans, and scholarships are available to eligible students.
