Saint Joseph’s College of Maine is a private, liberal arts learning institution located in Standish, Maine. It was founded in 1912 by the Sisters of Mercy initially as a school exclusively for women located within the convent grounds before it finally moved to its current location in Standish, Maine, a half-hour from Portland, Maine’s largest city, and two hours north of Boston. In 1970, the school became coeducational and, six years later, it established an online program for adult students who are not able to attend regular day classes either because of their work or because the place where they live is too far.
On campus, Saint Joseph’s College offers traditional bachelor’s degrees in over 40 majors and partnership programs for its students. Online, through its Graduate & Professional Studies Division, it offers undergraduate as well as graduate degrees, professional certificates and continuing education courses to over 2,500 students.
Saint Joseph’s online degree programs include associate’s, bachelor’s as well as master’s degrees in such fields as accounting, business, criminal justice, degree completion programs, education, health administration, human services, long-term care, nursing, pastoral theology and theological studies, psychology, and radiologic science administration.
Tuition cost per credit hour for online degrees and certificates vary according to the chosen program of study and number of courses taken. Financial aid is extended in the form of loans, grants and scholarships to help students pay for their cost of tuition.
Saint Joseph’s College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The nursing program is also approved by the Maine State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
