The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is an honors public research university located in Catonsville, Maryland. Established in 1966, it is an independent university within the University System of Maryland.
UMBC offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in various areas of concentration. Although the university specializes in the natural sciences and engineering, it also offers programs in the liberal arts. Accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, UMBC is an honors university that invites academically motivated students and provides them with all the necessary resources and focused guidance they need to achieve success in their chosen fields. In addition to its Graduate School, UMBC is divided into the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; College of Engineering and Information Technology; College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences; Erickson School of Aging; and School of Social Work. Within its Graduate School, UMBC offers 37 Master’s degree programs, 24 Doctoral degree programs, and 21 Graduate Certificate programs.
UMBC also provides busy working, non-traditional students with opportunities to pursue higher education via its Online Learning program. Online Learning offers Master’s degrees and Graduate Certificates the most known of which is its Online Master of Science in Information Systems. This online degree is designed for professionals working in the field of Information Technology who want to further their career. Tuition cost varies according to the degree program chosen and whether or not the student is a resident of Maryland. Financial aid is extended to students who qualify.
