Widener University, founded in 1821, started as a preparatory school for boys and was initially known as the Delaware Military Academy. Today, in addition to it is a coed institution of higher learning with campuses located in in Chester, Exton, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware.
